Giving A Holiday Gift That Pays

Tired of giving kids gifts that offer nothing more than a few hours of entertainment before they break or run out of batteries? Why not consider the following gifts that will start kids on the road to financial security?

  • Piggy banks and change sorters are a fun way to start the savings habit early while teaching kids how to set short and long-term goals.
  • Computer software, magazine subscriptions or books about personal finance can be both entertaining and educational. Coloring books with money-related themes are good choices for younger age groups.
  • History buffs might like one of the new Series I savings bonds. Each features a famous American like Dr. Martin Luther King, Albert Einstein, or Helen Keller, and comes with a narrative that explains that person’s place in history.
  • For older kids, consider mutual funds. Kids can read the prospectus, see what companies the fund invests in and track their progress.
  • Stocks can make great stocking stuffers, too, especially if you buy shares of a company the child knows, like an athletic shoe maker or a fast food franchise.
  • Board games like Monopoly can teach many concepts related to money in an entertaining fashion.
  • A few coins left over from international trips, along with a book on coin collecting, could inspire a young person to start a coin collection.

State Bank of Lizton Zionsville Branch Opens Its Doors to Guests With Grand Opening Celebration

ZIONSVILLE (August 27, 2007) -- State Bank of Lizton’s newest branch in The Marketplace at Anson officially opened its doors to the community last Saturday with its Family Fun Day Grand Opening Celebration. Despite blowing rain, which drove most of the festivities indoors, Zionsville area residents turned out in good numbers to meet the staff, tour the new facility, sample foods from local businesses, and take advantage of Grand Opening bank specials on Certificates of Deposit and Home Equity Lines of Credit.

“State Bank of Lizton is a community bank that places great emphasis on personal relationships,” said Rhonda Wiles, Assistant Vice President in charge of Marketing and Community Relations for State Bank of Lizton. “We wanted this Grand Opening celebration to reflect who we are and the value we place on our customers.”

Warm homemade cookies, baked by Zionsville branch employees, hot dogs, drinks, and foods from local businesses were also a hit with visitors. The Village Bakery at 40 W. Pine St. provided flaky pastries to be washed down with organic white and chocolate milk from Traders Point Creamery.

Radio Disney was on hand to host “It’s Time for Talent,” a karaoke contest for kids 14 and under. Contestants stepped up to the microphone to sing hits from “High School Musical 2.” The winner of the contest, Jane Albers,13, is in 7th grade at Summit Academy. Her parents are Greg and Susan Albers of Zionsville. Albers is now entered in Radio Disney’s national contest to win a trip to New York with tickets to “High School Musical: The Ice Show” at Madison Square Garden. Radio Disney will select the winner on or before Sept. 10.

Throughout the day, State Bank of Lizton held drawings for $ 100.00 gas cards and Indianapolis Indians baseball tickets. Jean Kolp of Zionsville was surprised and delighted as she stepped up shake hands with State Bank of Lizton president, Matt Ayers, and Zionsville branch manager, Laura Monnett, when her name was drawn as the winner of the day’s Grand Prize, a 42" LG flat screen television.

Customers of the new Zionsville branch can expect the same level of personal service that customers have come to expect from State Bank of Lizton, as well as some new technology offerings, including a remote teller system for customers on a tight schedule, and the latest in biometric hand geometry security for entrance into the safe deposit box area.

“In a day when rapid advances in technology and increased industry consolidation tend to distance customers from their banker, we want customers to know there is still a bank that makes decisions based on the customers’ best interest,” said Wiles.

This sentiment is echoed by branch manager, Monnett, “ At State Bank of Lizton, you’ll never be just a number.”

Monnett and the rest of the staff at the Zionsville branch invite the community to stop in and take a tour of the new facility and enjoy a cup of coffee from the gourmet coffee bar. Grand opening bank specials are available at most branch locations through September 1, 2007.

The Marketplace at Anson is State Bank of Lizton’s ninth branch location at 629 E. State Road 334, just east of the I-65 interchange. For more than 90 years State Bank of Lizton has embodied stability and a philosophy that there is a difference when a bank is local, independent and community-oriented.
